Dublin Central Candidate Deirdre Duffy Calls On New Irish Citizens of Dublin Central to Register And Vote On February 8th
“Dublin Central is one of Ireland’s most diverse constituencies with over 30,000 non Irish nationals resident here, we need to reflect that diversity in our policies and representation” said Duffy, human rights lawyer and campaigner.
“Tomorrow is the last day for all Irish citizens to register for this general election, simply visit a Garda station and get on the supplementary register” she added.
“Using our vote on February 8this so important for all our citizens to ensure that all communities are represented in our Dail, it is our most important right as an Irish citizen” she said.
“Dublin Central and Ireland is changing and we need to enact social change to help our communities adapt to these new environments. This means enabling integration and communication between all of our communities and building a stronger diverse and more vibrant society” said Duffy.
“Ireland has shown that we can all benefit greatly from our new diverse communities and we still have so much to learn. We must encourage our new citizens to get involved in society and run for public office, enriching our representative institutions.”
According to the latest CSO figures of 2016, Dublin Central has a population of 96,307.
Of this figure, resident Irish nationals account for 90,807 and non-nationals account for 33,956, or 37%.
